The Dance is based on Henri Matisse’s La Danse (1902). As with the Blue Nudes that I have done, I was experimenting with the representation of flowing organic shapes using the inherently angular form of postage stamps. Originally made in 1999, The Dance is now available in a series of ten.
*Due to printing variation, postmarks and wear, each stamp is unique. These variations are used to “paint” the overall image. Consequently works in a series, whilst depicting the same overall image, are completely unique hand made pieces.
