Liberty was commissioned by a London native who had lived for many years in New York and wanted something emblematic of New York for his London house. We discussed various subjects, eventually agreeing on The Statue of Liberty. The size and shape were heavily constrained by the position in which it was made to hang, but I find that constraints often lead to pleasing results. I wanted to avoid using a typical postcard type image, so I chose this slightly different perspective.
