Blackstar 3
202141 x 42cm£555
Series of ten*
Having completed the larger Blackstar, I decided to make a smaller version. Creating a perfect five-pointed star out of (not quite) square stamps is quite a challenge, even more so on such a small scale. Like much of my work, this piece relies on the way that the eyes and brain work together to interpret information. In a sense the piece only suggests a star. Like its larger cousins, Blackstar 3 uses black on black to create an image that appears and disappears in different lighting conditions.
*Due to printing variation, postmarks and wear, each stamp is unique. These variations are used to “”paint”” the overall image. Consequently works in a series, whilst depicting the same overall image, are completely unique hand made pieces.
